Week End Update: Cows on Hiatus Edition

Atonement

Progress on this story is going fairly well, but I doubt it will be ready in time for the upcoming Wednesday post. This is more or less as expected, as I usually only crank out about 2500 words per writing day. I technically have had enough time, since there's been four writing days, but the reality is that I haven't been able to keep my quantity up this week. And even if I had, I've already made it to 9000 words, and there's still one more scene left to write in this chapter, which will likely be at least 2000 more words.

So if I don't make it for this Wednesday (which seems unlikely), it will definitely be ready for the Wednesday after. We shall see, it all depends on how much work I can get done between now and then!

Speaking in vague terms, at least two of Natty's Pirates are going to have a lot of fun in the next chapter, leaving three more to go! The final conclusion is probably at least two more chapters away, meaning this will probably end up a 50,000 word novel!

Not bad, looking at it objectively. Hopefully somebody enjoys it.

Robotic Restitution

I edited my required chapter this week, making next week chapter 4. Four more weeks to go until the final draft of the first novel is completed. Time marches on quickly.

The last edits are a little terrifying. I've had to rename one of my main characters due to the number I had chosen for her name having 'other' connotations (420 is a fine number, but I don't want people to think of marijuana while reading my novels). Silly little pop references like that all went on the chopping block. My opinion is that smut like this is to entertain, and to do that I endeavor to not bring people out of the fantasy world. Anything that distracts the reader has to go.

And so it will. But I must be super careful while editing to ensure no trace of the old name remains. It would be very embarrassing to miss anything. Find/Replace is your friend!!

Speaking of books, I have the first book cover nearish to completion!

Yes, indeed, my poor art skills are getting a workout. I only hope it's acceptable enough to sell a few copies. Which is all I'm realistically going to sell anyway, but this has been rather a labor of love, overall, to push the boundaries of what I'm capable of. The longest and most complicated thing I've ever written. It deserves to have my personal stamp on every corner of it. Can't promise that for any future works, because it's simply so much effort!

Adele and a Hive Drone

I'm finally at the point where I'm more or less satisfied with the cover image for the first book. I need to resize things a bit, add title text and author etc etc. but otherwise I think it's pretty much done. Not terrible for a first time artist, but not all that great, either. I feel kind of meh about it, but it's about what I can accomplish at this stage.

I have an idea for what the cover for the second book should look like already, but the execution is going to be a problem (as always). Stay tuned for more information next week (if I have any, that is!)
