There's not much to update about right now, unfortunately, but I'm still working on all of my projects!
Enthralled has now reached 113K words, and with 1 scene and 2 chapters remaining to go, I expect to be finished with the first draft in 2-3 weeks (roughly). This is going to be a long one!
Choose Your Submission is now at 30K. I recently finished one of the short stories in this anthology, and there are around 3 more to write. I'm hoping to cap this around 50K, so if I go over, one of the short stories I'll release for free as an advertisement. This is pretty hot stuff, so look forward to it!
I'm kind of bummed it's taking so long to get these out (gosh, it's been 3 months since my last release!), but I keep hitting my daily writing targets, so there's not much more I can do! (There goes the plan to write shorter stuff!)
What are your thoughts on splitting a story into multiple volumes? As a reader, I’ve discovered that it’s much easier to pick up a 20k-word first installment of a 100k-word story. It feels like reading an example - a way to see if I enjoy the story before committing to the whole thing. This format also promises a more focused narrative, as a reader can expect at least one or two climactic moments (in every sense of the word) by the end of each volume.
ReplyDeleteI believe your style of smut would suit this format perfectly. The first book could serve as the introduction and cover the inciting incident (the corruption/transformation), while the subsequent volumes could explore the “new life” that follows.
Your suggestion is well taken, and in terms of my latest work, which has surprised me by turning into the length of two novels, that may very well be what I have to consider doing. I am planning on going through the manuscript and deciding whether there's a good 'cliffhanger' point at which I can split up the action, otherwise there may be no hope of getting anything published this month!
