There haven't been many Japanese hentais that have shown BDSM themes - at least not many good ones that I am aware. Unfortunately, so many hentais seem to have really ugly, or really fat guys fucking chicks. Of course, as the viewer you're supposed to pay more attention to person being fucked than the one doing the fucking, but for me it's too much of a turn off. There's also no subtlety or any form of mind alteration going on in these scenarios, so there's no help there, either.
I only know of about three that I actually like - I'm sure I'll get back to discussing the others in future episodes, but for now let's talk about a show called 'Cool Devices,' made way back in 1995. The earliest form of pure bondage hentai I am aware of, this show was a product of its time, but it doesn't feel as dated as other material made during this time period, probably due to its relatively higher production values.
This was a rather experimental show, with eleven episodes, consisting of unrelated plot lines. There are two stories which were two parters. Wikipedia has a good summary of the show, if <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cool_Devices">you're interested in any of the other episodes.</a> However, I only found episodes one and nine to be to my liking, so those are the ones I will be discussing.
Today I will cover the first episode, and tomorrow the ninth episode.
Operation One: Curious Fruit
The first episode opens with a montage of a girl bound and being molested by two snakes (probably the earliest form of tentacle porn I've ever seen, besides La Blue Girl, which came out even earlier). A snake bites one of her nipples and turns into a piercing, a foreshadowing of what's to come.
We then transfer to a bar, where two figures approach the bartender. One of them is wearing a transparent latex outfit, a corset, and black latex gloves, which reveals her breasts and labia. At this point in most shows the police would turn up, but luckily this is a dark porn flick.
They kiss each other as the man molests her, but it's clear that the woman is in charge.
The bartender and others surrounding them are appalled at their carefree attitude, but they don't care. They've probably done this before, which makes it even more surprising that the cops don't show up.
The scene shifts to a table near the rear where the woman from the prologue sits with her friends. She seems intrigued by the couple, even imagining what it would be like to in the place of the other woman. It's interesting that she visualizes herself nude rather than in the outfit the other woman is wearing.
They leave the bar, and our main character follows, curious as to what they're up to.
She is surprised by them, is captured, and is taken to their dungeon.
The dungeon is populated by quite a variety of girls; either they have done this before, or they've attracted a lot of women interested in their lifestyle. Their presence is never explained.
Our main character gets dressed in this delicious outfit, which has informed far too many of the outfits I've written about in my stories. I've seen this sort of thing in one other hentai, which I will have to save to discuss another time.
We get to see some other denizens of the dungeon, who are either having a great time or a terrible time. Probably great, as we never really see true cruelty in this particular show.
The 'mistress' (we never do learn her name) presides over the dungeon.
The mistress commands the guy (the strong and silent type; he never does say anything in the entire show) to give the new girl his dick. He immediately whips out a bright, shiny dong and waves it in her face.
It's amusing to me that this is censored, given that none of the female parts are, but since I'm only looking at the ladies here anyway, it doesn't bother me too much. It's even stranger because the dicks in episode nine of the show aren't censored at all.
They continue for awhile and our character begins to enjoy it (she never seems all that disturbed about what's happening - she must be sucking popsicles made of pure light quite often).
After the fellow does his business, he gives her a bit of a kiss. Hopefully they gave her a shower afterwards, too.
Next scene, we swap to watching her being exhibited at a BDSM party.
Bound and chained, she's put in another delightful outfit and gagged and whipped.
After a little bit of whipping, the mistress leads her like a pet up to a platform.
The distinctly eighties crowd watches her with joy as her hands are chained above her head.
Exposed and ready for action, she doesn't have to hang around long.
Full body suit man gives her some more whipping, which she doesn't seem too displeased about.
The vibrator keeps her ready as tall and dark walks up.
Ordered by the mistress, he goes down on her, revving her up.
She gets a boob massage for awhile...
...which ends when he gives her what she wants.
We swap back to the bar, where her friends are wondering what she's been up to. None of them look like they have the right hair style to live it up in a BDSM club, why is why they're here in this boring bar instead.
In walks a mysterious figure, dressed in an exposed outfit, much like the mistress we saw at the beginning of the episode.
She gets molested by the two men she came in with, a reprise of the opening scene. When she turns around, her friends all exclaim in shock and surprise!
They must have become lovers after they made love in the club. Her nipples are pierced with the same piercings shown in the intro, bringing the story full circle.
At this point the episode ends, leaving us with a series of delicious questions:
- Is she a mistress, or a slave? The final scene is ambiguous. An argument could be made for either, given that one of the men is quite aggressive with her. At any rate, she definitely belongs to the BDSM club now.
- Will one of her friends follow them from the bar and become entrapped in the same BDSM club that she found?
- How long did she have to stay at that club for this to happen to her? Were certain... methods of persuasion used to make her more amenable to becoming a new club whore?
Operation One Thoughts
There's no overt mind control in this episode, but as evidenced by the final questions above, there's lots of possibilities that could have come about due to mind control. Serial recruitment has always been a hot button for me, and there's lots of room for more of it in a show like this. It's a shame there's no other show I've seen that follows the same themes.
Looking back, I think this show has had an outsized influenced in the writing I've done. The costumes, piercings, and aspects of BDSM are really fun to play with. I wish I knew of other shows like this one.
