Oh, this should be right down my alley! Kinda reminds me of Anaximanes' games at tfgames, like Slugs And Bugs with various bad ends.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to get your hopes up here, as this isn't a choose your own adventure story. Instead, it's a series of hot shorts, book-ended by a mysterious entity asking you to submit. :)
DeleteNever actually liked those chyoa things - I prefer finished shorts, like in this book :) I'm not a fan of first-person narration either, it took a few pages to get used to it. It's weird how first-person is seemingly made to be immersive, but for me it does somewhat the opposite. But it reads good in this book, perhaps I just need to read such forms more.
DeleteAh, glad to hear it!
DeleteSome CHYOAs can be good, too, but that's a LOT more work! I tried creating a game in the past, but it turned out to be a far larger project than I had originally anticipated. As with most such projects, the enthusiasm waned, and the ideas got shelved.
However, I actually ended up turning some of the material from that game into the shorts you see here in this anthology. Specifically, the mysterious entity, IT, and the short 'Nothing and Nobody' had some material ripped directly from my Twine pages (though I also added quite a bit to flesh it out as well!)
First person was rather foreign to me at first, too, but it fits the theme I was going for with this anthology, so I stuck with it.
I don't really self insert myself when I read stories, so first person doesn't do much for me personally, but there may be people out there that can get more out of it than I can!
I'm not planning on making this a consistent thing, but it's another tool in the toolbox, especially if I decide to come back for another anthology or make follow on shorts!
I am currently writing one more short in first person, 'Breeding Understanding,' which I plan on releasing for free at some point this month (hopefully!) After that, I'm not quite sure what I'll be tackling next. We'll have to see how my health holds up!
I brainstormed with some friends about making an NSFW game (we're game developers), and we came up with two different approaches—some focused more on gameplay, while others, including me, preferred as little gameplay as possible since the main reason for playing such a game is... well, different :)
DeletePersonally, I’d prefer a game in some form of CHYOA — just an interactive story where the player fine-tunes desired outcomes in scenes. Or perhaps some simple expository gameplay between the main scenes, but without breaking them up into too many small choices, as many CHYOAs tend to do. Just sharing my two cents — maybe it’ll be helpful sometime :)
One interesting example is Parasite Infection, available on Steam and TF Games (an earlier version is free). The beginning has a nice balance of simple gameplay and scenes, but by the middle the style is changes multiple times and the game loses me. I can’t quite put my finger on why.
As for scope, let’s see how this anthology idea plays out. I was thinking of finishing multiple short stories as a foundation for longer arcs and seeing which ones generate the most interest among readers (if I get any). This might also help with motivation by preventing one from staying too long on a single story. But again, that’s just a theory—I still need to actually finish something first. Yeah.
Anyway, take care of yourself and carry on! :)
I found Honey Habits really fascinating! I actually found myself wishing for a bit more about the post-transformation experience — how the character navigates their new normal. I had the same feeling with Rubber Bees, wanting to see a bit more of Violet’s time after the TF. If you ever feel like expanding those moments, don’t hesitate! Your post-transformation sequences — not just the body, but the mind — are a real treat. That’s the most delicious part of any corruption, after all!
DeleteIf that's the sort of CHYOA you enjoy, I would recommend the stories by GlossAndGlamour: https://www.deviantart.com/glossandglamour
DeleteSpecifically, 'Lost in Laminate': https://www.deviantart.com/glossandglamour/art/Lost-in-Laminate-An-Interactive-Fiction-825171893
'Sonata' is also quite good as well. The focus here appears to be on giving you choices on how the scene plays out... and although there are larger decisions to make as well, this gives the reader more freedom to play the game the way they choose without necessarily affecting the overarching decisions being made. I think the design choices made on these stories were quite good, and I only wish I felt well enough to tackle a similar sort of project!
I'm quite familiar with the various iterations of Parasite Infection - it started out as a smaller game on tfgamesite before coming to Steam. In some respects, it worked better as a one off than what it subsequently became - primarily because it turned into a mishmash of ideas crammed together into several 'story units.'
I don't want to be negative about it, because it's a great accomplishment, but it's also a good case study of what not to do - smaller, more self contained works are the way to go instead of trying to cram too much together, in my opinion!
Your idea of writing several shorts to see how they go is a good idea, but I'm not certain you can rely upon feedback from readers to direct you - there's precious little of that in this industry. From my experience, the best way forward is to write some of the themes you like, and if you're lucky, some other people will like what you're doing, too!
I would encourage you to finish something and publish it, then keep moving on. That's the only way to do it!

DeleteThank you! That's often the most difficult part to write, of course, ha ha!
I can't promise anything, those sections only work out well if you can figure out something that the transformees should be doing after their conversion, which isn't always that easy to do!
